Recommended System Specifications
The following specifications are required to run the Ukrainian Language Acquisition
System:
PC
a) Pentium processor
b) Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP operating system
c) At least 128 MB of RAM
d) Graphics card with at least 800X600 resolution capability with 65, 000 colors
e) 32X CD-ROM drive
f) Windows compatible sound card
g) Speakers or headphones
h) Mouse
Macintosh
a) 400 MHz G3 processor or faster
b) At least 128 MB of RAM
c) Mac OS X or later
Course Structure
The whole learning course is divided into 3 principal educational units which are
intended to study:
- Ukrainian Alphabet.
- Ukrainian Vocabulary.
- Ukrainian Folk Tales.
Each unit presents the new material first and then practises and consolidates it
through different kinds of exercises.
Ukrainian Alphabet
- Select an activity (shown in the screen as haystacks) by clicking on its link.
- When the mouse pointer is over an appropriate haystack, its title is highlighted
and the activity short introduction appears above the haystack.
- Press “Menu” button to see “back to main menu” button which takes you back to
the main menu.
- Right-top corner “sound on/off” button allows you to switch on or off the
background music.

Ukrainian Vocabulary
All the words in this part are sorted into 8 lexical topics presented in the screen as
haystacks. There are the following topics to study:
- House
- Colors
- Family
- Farm Animals
- Fruits and Vegetables
- Numerals
- Parts of the Body
- Weather
There are also 5 vocabulary studying activities.

Ukrainian Tales
The third part gives you an opportunity to read 3 popular Ukrainian folk tales, which
are presented as sound recorded animation cartoons. The tales are presented in two
languages – Ukrainian and English.
Each tale presentation contains the following educational parts:
a) before reading activities:
- Words Study;
- Picture Match;
- Flash Cards;
- Word Scan.
b) after reading activities:
- Read and Fill In;
- Read and Type.
